NORCECA's best to fight for regional glory, ticket to Japan

Team USA is looking to regain the form that made it Olympic champion last year

Lausanne, October 8, 2009 — With the international Volleyball season quickly coming to a close, eight teams from the NORCECA region are converging on Bayamon, Puerto Rico this weekend for a chance to prolong their involvement in world-class matches into November. The teams will be competing at the 2009 NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship from October 12-17, with the winner qualifying for the 2009 FIVB World Grand Champions Cup in Japan from November 18-23. Only two teams have ever won the NORCECA event, Cuba (13 times) and the United States (7 times), but that doesn’t mean the other participants don’t have what it takes to pull off an upset at the tournament. The top-ranked Americans are three-time defending champions of the event, having last won on home soil in 2007. They will face Canada, Mexico and Panama in Group B, while Cuba will go up against Barbados, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico in Group A. Cuba has recently improved its FIVB world ranking from 18th to 12th after a fourth-place finish in the 2009 World League. Puerto Rico will enjoy a home-court advantage. The Americans, on the other hand, are fresh off fight straight losses to Brazil in a series of friendlies in the South American country. “The important thing for us to do is be really concerned with our side of the net and how we prepare for each opponent,” U.S. head coach Alan Knipe said. “It’s the first time all summer that we have had the opportunity to choose our roster from almost all the guys in the program. We’re excited to get down there.” Awaiting the NORCECA champion at the World Grand Champions Cup are hosts Japan, South American champion Brazil, European titleholders Poland, Asian representative Iran, and African champion and wild card Egypt. como 100pre. No entiendo x ké los otros países del caribe no despegan en la rama masculina teniendo tan buen biotipo. Ya me cansé de la hegemonía cubana hace unos años y de la yanki desde hace unos cuantos.

Pues no lo es tanto. El ultimo preolimpico la final fue USA vs Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico tiene a su jugador Soto que es espectacular. No se si lo habras visto pero es imparable en el ataque.
Puerto Rico puede dar la sorpresa otra vez aunque Cuba ha recuperado su nivel. USA contrariamente no ha llegado a conformar el fabuloso equipo que lo llevo al oro en Beijing.

cierto, no por nada va a participar del mundial tanto en hombres como en mujeres, pr sí ke ha dado grandes saltos en el voley. Pero yo me refería a la gran mayoría de pasíses del norceca, rep dom, no le va bien, méxico ha mejorado pero aún le falta, y los demás del caribe ni sikiera cuentan...
